What are Dental Lasers?

A dental laser is a small, handheld instrument that almost resembles a pen. It works by emitting a concentrated beam of light, and this can be used for all sorts of procedures instead of traditional hand tools (more on this below).

Lip & Tongue-Tie Treatment

A lip or tongue tie is commonly treated with a procedure known as a frenectomy. Thanks to our laser, the process is fast, minimally invasive, and completely safe for both infants and young children. This advanced tool uses a focused light beam to carefully remove excess oral tissue while simultaneously sealing the area. Because of this technique, babies typically experience far less discomfort afterward than with regular methods. The laser’s accuracy also makes the procedure much gentler overall.

Afterward, many parents observe positive changes in their child, such as improved eating habits, more restful sleep, and even progress in speech development, including clearer pronunciation of words.

While the teeth certainly get a lot of attention in our office, the gums play just as big a role when it comes to the health and appearance of your child’s smile. Our dental laser enables us to remove infected tissue or overgrown gums that are restricting the teeth and causing them to come in crooked.

Compared to traditional instruments, the laser is much more conservative, allowing us to target the exact tissue causing the problem while leaving the healthy gums untouched. This approach is also much more precise, giving us greater control to guarantee a more thorough treatment and higher quality result.

The Benefits of Laser Dentistry

Happy baby at dentist

Thanks to our laser, our patients don’t have to visit a separate office to have these treatments performed, which cuts down on stress and saves time for mom and dad. Better yet, the instrument itself emits almost no heat, sound, or vibration, making it so the patient basically feels nothing while in the chair.

And, because the laser cauterizes while it works, this naturally cuts down on post-treatment symptoms like bleeding and swelling. This leads to a happier child in the days following their appointment and means they can resume their normal routine in just a fraction of the time compared to the old way of doing things.
